WHO Releases Governing Principles for a .health Internet Domain
[Global] The World Health Organization passed principles for a .health domain, including governance, codes of conduct, privacy and security.
The internet provides far-reaching benefits for health, from information gathering to communication and patient engagement and even making healthcare more efficient. “It is imperative that the management and operation of health-related generic top-level domains (gTLDs), including .health, be consistent with public health objectives in order to serve the public, civil society, governments and industry on a global scale,” the WHO’s statement said.
WHO then called on the ICANN Board, the internet’s governing body, to adopt a set of principles overseeing the .health domain.
