This three minute video tells the story of a program to increase the number of midwives in Afghanistan through the experiences of one of the midwives, Shahrbanoo. The program established accredited schools of midwifery that train women to provide much needed services as well as earn an income, neither of which were allowed during the Taliban era. As a result of the program, there are now 3,000 midwives serving in the country, up from the 467 when the program began. [adapted from author]
